This is one of the most authoritative matns in later Ḥanbalī fiqh — the text upon which Sharḥ Muntahā al-Irādāt (by al-Bahūtī) and Kashshāf al-Qināʿ were later built. Ibn al-Najjār drew together Ibn Qudāmah’s al-Muqniʿ with al-Mardāwī’s authoritative al-Tanqīḥ (which itself records the strongest position, al-rājiḥ, within the madhhab), then added further refinements (ziyādāt). The result is a highly compressed, precisely-worded matn covering the full scope of fiqh from ṭahārah through farāʾiḍ, representing the “final word” of the later Ḥanbalī taḥrīr (verification) process — hence the title “the ultimate in aspirations.”
